Dishes range from Chhole Bhature to Chicken Biriyani.

London is home to world-class restaurants covering a range of cuisines. Now, the Indian restaurant, Oorja, is set to open on Shaftesbury Avenue. Drawing inspiration from North India, it prides itself on offering a modern twist on traditional dishes.

Oorja has been created by the Indian restaurateur, Gobind Chona. He is no stranger to London’s dining scene, and previously opened Gura Gura in the capital. Now, he has created an elevated Indian dining experience at Oorja.

The opening date for Oorja has not yet been confirmed. The full menu for the restaurant has also not yet been unveiled, but it has shared a sneak peek of what diners can expect. On Instagram, there are a range of shots that share some dishes.

Chhole Bhature is a popular snack in Dehli and comes with puffed golden brown bhature. The dish blends together chickpeas with pickled onions, achaar and spices. Palak Patta Chaat is a bowl of chaat that echoes one of Banaras’ most popular street foods. The dish combines crispy fried spinach with drizzle of yoghurt, tangy tamarind chutney and sprinkles of masala.

Hyderabadi Chicken Biriyani combines aromatic, saffron-soaked rice with spices and tender chicken. Dessert includes Gulab Jamun Brulee, which combines Indian and French dessert traditions.

Oorja will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast dishes include Egg Burji on Toast, which is served on sourdough bread. Sunday lunch dishes include a tandoori roast beef with garam masala beef gravy.
