The UAE-based chef is coming to the capital.
The UAE's Chef Izu is spreading his culinary magic. The chef is bringing his Dubai-born concepts Alaya and Shanghai ME to London. While the locations have not yet been confirmed, these are restaurants to put on your radar.
Alaya will open in London in 2025. The original concept can be found in Dubai, and the menu celebrates Mediterranean cuisine and features Middle Eastern influences. Drawing inspiration from Chef Izu's travels, it aims to pay tribute to the richness of the region. The Dubai restaurant offers an elegant experience – the interiors have Arabic art on the walls and white tablecloths.
Shanghai ME will open in Mayfair in 2024. Inspired by 1930s Shanghai, the menu covers Pan Asian cuisine. Dishes that have been passed down through different generations have been given a playful twist. Plus, the restaurant in DIFC, Dubai boasts an Art Deco design.
Chef Izu is no stranger to London. His restaurants GAIA London and La Maison Ani London can already be found in the capital. GAIA London is a Greek meets Mediterranean concept located in Mayfair. La Maison Ani London is a French meet Mediterranean concept located in Knightsbridge.
Chef Izu has worked closely with Fundamental Hospitality, and his restaurants range from GAIA to Maison de la Plage. He was born in Nigeria, raised in London, and now lives in Dubai. When he lived in France, he learnt to cook French food and immersed himself in the country's culinary scene and culture.
