Located in Fitzrovia, the restaurant captures the Andean South.
London is home to a range of cuisines from around the world. In June, it is set to welcome the Chilean restaurant, Mareida. Located on Great Portland Street in Fitzrovia, it aims to capture the flavours from the Andean South.
Prenay Agarwal is behind Mareida. He has drawn from his experience of living in Chile for one year. Now, he wants to showcase the flavours he fell in love with, and bring them to London. It’s not just about keeping the dinner authentic, but also the design of the venue. The space will be designed by the Santiago-based architect, Macarena Aguilar, and it will include pieces from local Chilean artists.

Head Chef Trinidad Vial Della Maggiora and Chef Carolina Bazán will be at the helm of the kitchen. In 2019, Carolina was awarded Latin America’s Best Female Chef by the World’s 50 Best. In order to give things fresh and authentic, there will also be guest chefs from the Southern Andes. Plus, sommelier Rosario Onetto is behind the wine list, which includes Chilean wines.
While the full menu for Mareida has not yet been unveiled, we have been tantalisingly teased with what we can expect. In 2024, Mareida opened a pop-up at the restaurant Carousel, and diners got a preview of the dishes. Dishes included Fish Tartare with granita in an ice cream cone, Fried Pumpkin Pastry, Grilled Sea Bass with quinoa, Lamb Corn Cake, Mussels in the shell, and Pescado a la Parrilla.

The menu was playful and polished. One dessert included white chocolate shaped like ancient sculptures in Chile, and came with a passion fruit and dark sesame flavour. Plus, other desserts included Flan and Lucuma Ice Cream.
