The park will be located outside of London in Bedford.

Europe's first Universal theme park is coming to Bedford, United Kingdom. Construction is expected to start in 2026, and it is set to open in 2031.

The new attraction will be one of the most advanced and biggest theme parks on the continent, and will include a 500-room hotel and a retail, dining and entertainment complex.

The PortAventura resort in Spain is also a Universal site, but the Bedford attraction will be the first in Europe that will be designed and built by the production company from scratch. The Bedford site will cover over 476 acres, and would be built on the site of the former Kempston Hardwick brickworks.

The maker of movies such as Wicked, Jurassic World and Minions, Universal also has several other theme parks globally. Sites include Orlando and Los Angeles in the USA, Osaka in Japan, Sentosa in Singapore, and Beijing in China.

In addition to the already purchased 476 acres, Universal could further increase the plot size to 700 acres, improving transport links to the area. Universal Destinations and Experience said that 80 percent of those employed in these newly offered jobs would be from Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: "Bedford [will be] home to one of the biggest entertainment parks in Europe, firmly putting the county on the global stage. Together, we are building a brighter future for the UK, getting people into work and ensuring our economy remains strong and competitive."
