The stadium and surrounding area are poised to become a must-visit destination.

Football is a way of life in the UK. From roaring stadiums to the chants of fans, the sport holds a special place in the hearts of millions. And now, Manchester United’s legendary home, Old Trafford, is set to undergo a major transformation. The club has unveiled designs for the Old Trafford Stadium District.

Manchester United has appointed world-renowned architects Foster + Partners to develop a master plan for the Old Trafford Stadium District. Together, they aim to create a world-class football destination that caters to Manchester United fans while also encouraging engagement in the local area. The plan includes building a mixed-use community that will attract people, making the district a must-visit destination.

The 100,000-seater Old Trafford Stadium will be designed to be an open, outward-facing venue, creating a connection between the club and its surroundings. The design takes inspiration from Manchester United’s famous trident emblem, giving the stadium an iconic presence on the skyline. It will feature three towering masts supporting a translucent canopy that shelters the stands while harvesting energy and rainwater.

Beyond the stadium itself, the Old Trafford Stadium District will be a fully integrated, mixed-use development. This will include a new public plaza — twice the size of Trafalgar Square — providing a central gathering point overlooking the Bridgewater Canal in Manchester. Green spaces and waterfront areas to promote sustainability, new commercial, residential and retail spaces will be popping up nearby. A new train station to improve access to and from the district is also on the agenda.
