The footballer-turned-chef opens his first London restaurant.

Harrods is known across the world as a luxury shopping destination. Now, it is amping up its dining offerings, as it launches Studio Frantzén. Swedish chef Björn Frantzén is behind the concept, which is adding something different to London’s dining scene.

Björn Frantzén was born in Stockholm, Sweden. In the 1990s, he rose to fame as a footballer and played for AIK. In 2008, he opened the restaurant Frantzén/Lindenberg and it was awarded a MICHELIN Star. In 2016, he opened his first international restaurant Frantzén’s Kitchen in Hong Kong. Over his career, he has received critical and commercial success and notched up six MICHELIN Stars to his name

Now, Björn is opening his first restaurant in the United Kingdom. Studio Frantzén will span two floors and include a restaurant, rooftop terrace and bar. The custom-built space includes 112 seats and panoramic views of London. Plus, the décor will be a modern, luxurious interpretation of Scandinavian design.

Studio Frantzén’s menu combines neo-Nordic and Asian influences and has an emphasis on seasonal ingredients. Plus, the chef will offer his own take on iconic British dishes.

The starters range from Tartar of Tuna and Red Deer to Vendace roe from Kalix. The mains include Veal Minute made with fermented Kampot pepper jus and Sichuan pepper oil; Salad Bonito Caesar, which is a Japanese twist on a Caesar salad; and Autumn Lamb with wasabi, mint raita and grilled cucumber. The desserts include an After Eight tart, Lingonberry marshmallow sorbet, and Sticky Toffee Pudding with miso caramel.

Björn Frantzén explained: “The UK was my home for a long time, and the experience that I gained here early on my career played an informative role in my education as a chef. I am overwhelmingly proud to be back in London, one of the most interesting cities in the world, to open my restaurant at Harrods.”

Ashley Saxton, Director of Restaurants and Kitchens, added: “Bringing Björn Frantzén, arguably the most talked-about and decorated chef in the world at the moment, to Harrods is an incredible coup for the business, but one that speaks for our current position as a dining destination. This will be the flagship restaurant in our already world-leading collection of the finest luxury dining experiences, and put Knightsbridge on the map as the new culinary destination for London.”
